FAQS

FACIAL

WHY DO I NEED A FACIAL?

Your skin needs regular maintenance for health and glow. Our facial services help to improve the circulation of blood, stimulate the growth of new skin cells, and tighten your skin. Facials also help in slowing down premature skin aging while improving skin conditions such as acne breakouts, redness, and skin inflammation. These are also great to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and give you brighter, smoother and rejuvenated skin.

Is there any preparation that I need to do before getting facial treatment?

As facials work on your face and neck, you should not wear makeup products before having facial. Men should have clean shave unless bearded. Avoid doing shaving at least 12 hours before taking the facial treatment; otherwise, it can over-exfoliate and irritate your skin.

Can I come to my appointment wearing makeup?

Yes, you can because our esthetician always performs deep cleansing before the treatment to remove any dirt, makeup, impurities, and oil present on the skin.

Will I experience breakouts after getting a facial treatment?

Breakouts can frequently occur after facial treatment because facials lift the impurities to the surface of the skin to detoxify it. The breakouts should eliminate within a week. To prevent any further complications, our esthetician asks you about the ingredients or products that your skin might have reacted to in the past. Additionally, other factors like your lifestyle, diet, sleep, hormones, etc. contribute to breakouts. Be careful about the intake of toxins in a diet like sugar, caffeine, alcohol, etc. which can lead to skin problems. Drink lots of water every day to flush out toxins from your body and hydrate your skin.

Do facial treatment causes skin redness afterward?

Most of the facial treatments that we perform give you healthy, smooth, and glowing skin. However, your skin may appear pinkish for some time due to steam, massage, and extractions. Usually, this redness disappears in a few hours.

Can I put on makeup immediately after getting a facial treatment?

You should allow the nutrients and potent active ingredients to absorb deeper into the skin without wearing makeup. However, there is no restriction on wearing makeup after a facial.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPERIENCE AFTER MY FACIAL?

Our services are designed to give you smooth and healthy skin in a relaxed and soothing environment. After taking the service, you will feel hydrated, comfortable, and experience a healthy glow on your face. If you take facial in the evening, we do not cleanse your skin afterward to prepare it for the night time. If you receive service in the early part of the day, we apply skin protection products and recommend you to cleanse your skin before going to bed.

CAN I WEAR MAKEUP AFTER MY FACIAL?

Ideally, we prefer that you allow your skin to continue to absorb the nutrients and hydration without makeup. However, putting on makeup after will not harm your facial.

How often do you recommend a facial treatment?

Typically, once a month is the rule of thumb. Depending on your skin type, oily, acne-prone, sensitive, or dry your esthetician will advise you what’s best for your skin.

CHEMICAL PEEL

WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?

Myth: Chemical peel makes your skin hurt. Reality: Peels are formulated with unique ingredient blends that work with your skin to allow for comfortable treatments without sacrificing efficacy. The result is increased cell turnover and fresh, healthy skin.

HOW DO I LOOK AFTER A PEEL?

Myth: Chemical peels leave you red in the face and require a lot of downtime. Reality: Peels leave you with a healthy glow, not bright red. They also have minimal downtime. Some guests even schedule treatments during their lunch break!

WHO ARE PEELS FOR?

Chemical peels are safe and effective in improving and preventing most skin conditions:

  • Aging
  • Acne
  • Discoloration
  • Sensitive skin/rosacea
WHY DO I NEED A PEEL?
Our skin naturally exfoliates, gently shedding dead skin cells so subtly that most of us don’t even notice. However, as we age, this process tends to slow, resulting in a dull complexion.
HOW DO PEELS WORK?
Chemical peels speed up exfoliation process, encouraging cell turnover that leaves the skin looking fresh and healthy. The result is exfoliation after a treatment often seen in the form of peeling or flaking that lasts a couple days. Ingredients in the peel solution are also working to create new cells that function properly, not only visibly improving the skin, but correcting from within.
WHEN DO I GET A PEEL?
Chemical peels are usually recommended once a month, paralleling the skin’s natural 28-day cell turnover process for the best results. Depending on your skin concern, your aesthetician may recommend them more or less frequently. Peels have little to no downtime, allowing for treatments that won’t disrupt your schedule.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A PEEL?

Peels have a large number of benefits, some that can be noticed, and some that subtly occur under the surface of the skin.

  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
  • Controlled oil production and fewer breakouts
  • Diminished discoloration and more even skin tone
  • Reduced inflammatory response
  • Increased cell turnover process
  • Overall brighter complexion
  • Softer, smoother skin
I AM NERVOUS ABOUT RECEIVING A PEEL HOW DO I KNOW A CHEMICAL PEEL IS RIGHT FOR ME?
Your Certified professional has been trained in the safe and effective application of each professional treatment products. This education, in conjunction with their professional license, allows them not to only choose a treatment appropriate for your skin type, but also customize the treatment to address your personal skin care needs.
HOW MUCH DISCOMFORT SHOULD BE EXPECTED DURING A PEEL?
The level of discomfort experienced depends on the treatment. Most chemical peels are gentle and create minimal to no burning or stinging sensations on the skin. Dramatic wrinkling, sun damage or acne scars may require a deeper peel, which may cause moderate stinging for a few minutes. Deep peels are not necessary for most skin types and conditions. Our superficial peels produce beautiful and immediate results with minimal discomfort for the majority of patients.
CAN PEOPLE WHO ARE FREQUENTLY IN THE SUN RECEIVE PEELS?
Yes, but only if they use sunscreen protection every day. Sunbathing should be avoided due to increased risk of skin cancer and visible premature aging, but especially prior to treatment, directly following treatment and while the skin is peeling. If you are receiving peel treatments to reduce skin discoloration(hyperpigmentation), it is imperative to use the appropriate skin brightening products, as well as broad spectrum SPF product daily, and avoid unnecessary sun exposure to reduce the chance of further hyperpigmentation.
WILL A CHEMICAL PEEL MAKE THIN SKIN EVEN THINNER?
No, having a chemical peel will remove surface buildup, hydrate the skin and give it a plumper, “thicker” appearance. The use of topical vitamin C, retinoids and peptide products in treatment as well as in a daily care regimen, will help build the collagen and elastin network in the skin, thus making it stronger and more durable.
PREPARATION FOR A PEEL TREATMENT:

You will be having a light peel treatment on the day of your appointment.

Please follow the outline below to prepare. It is recommended that you take the following into consideration:

  • If you are lactating, pregnant or may become pregnant only an Oxygenating facial may be appropriate. Consult your OB/GYN before receiving any treatment.
  • Do not go to a tanning bed two weeks prior to treatment. This practice should be discontinued due to the increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.
  • It is recommended that extended sun exposure be avoided, especially in the 10 days prior to treatment.
  • It is recommended to delay use of tretinoin, Retin-A, Renova, Differin, Tazorac, Avage, EpiDuo, Ziana and high-percentage AHA and BHA products for approximately five days prior to treatment. Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing use of any prescription medications.
  • Do not exfoliate 5 days prior to receiving a peel.
  • Avoid waxing and/or any depilatory creams 5 days before treatment.

Superficial peels result in little to no downtime but create dramatic and visible results. Treatments may cause slight redness, tightness, peeling, flaking or temporary dryness. Most patients find it unnecessary to apply makeup, as the skin will be smooth, dewy and radiant following your treatment. If you would like to apply makeup, allow approximately 15 minutes for the pH of the skin to stabilize before applying foundation.

POST PROCEDURE SKIN TREATMENT TIPS:

For Two Days Post-Procedure:

  • Stay cool! Heating internally can cause hyperpigmentation.
  • Do not put the treated area directly into a hot shower spray.
  • Do not use hot tubs, steam rooms or saunas.
  • Do not go swimming.
  • Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
  • Do not use loofahs or other means of mechanical exfoliation.
  • Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.
  • Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated area.

General Guidelines:

  • After receiving a professional treatment, you should not necessarily expect to “peel”. However, light flaking in a few localized areas for several days is typical. Most patients who undergo these treatments have residual redness for approximately one to 12 hours post-procedure.
  • As with all peels and treatments, it is recommended that makeup not be applied the day of treatment, as it is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight; however, makeup may be applied 15 minutes after the treatment if desired.
  • To minimize side effects and maximize results use “The Post-Procedure Solution” for three to five days or until flaking has resolved.
  • Moisturizer should be applied at least twice a day, but can be applied more frequently for hydration and to decrease the appearance of flaking.
  • It is recommended that other topical, over-the-counter medications or alpha hydroxy acid products not be applied to the skin seven days post-procedure, as they may cause irritation.
  • It is recommended to delay use of tretinoin, Retin-A, Differin, Renova, Tazorac, Avage, EpiDuo or Ziana five days post-procedure. Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing use of any prescription medications.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. Use a broad spectrum SPF 30 minimum. Ask your skin care professional about which SPF products will work best for you and your skin!
  • Do not go to a tanning bed for at least two weeks post-procedure. This practice should be discontinued due to the increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.
  • Do not pick or pull on any loosening or peeling skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.
  • Do not have electrolysis, facial waxing or use depilatories for approximately five days.

MICRODERMABRASION & DERMAPLANING

WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation, using a scalpel, that removes the top-most layer of dull, dead skin cells and vellus hair (peach fuzz) in order to reveal a clearer, smoother, brighter and even complexion.

WHAT IS MICRODERMABRASION?

Microdermabrasion is the process of using a diamond tip wand to exfoliate and remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells. Resulting in a fresh, clear, smooth, brighter, and even complexion.

WHO CAN HAVE MICRODERMABRASION?

Microdermabrasion is recommended for all skin types. However, it is important to discuss any skin sensitivities with your esthetician before starting a treatment. This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the use of chemicals.

POST-TREATMENT:
  • You may experience slight redness, which should resolve within 24 hours.
  • Keep your skin moisturized, re-apply moisturizer if necessary.
  • Avoid sun exposure. Your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure, but sure to wear broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to avoid hyperpigmentation.
  • Avoid heat, saunas, hot tubs and sweaty activity for 24 hours.
  • Avoid products containing any exfoliating agents (retinoic acid, retinol, tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, astringents, etc.) for 24-48 hours after treatment.
  • Do not exfoliate for at least 5 days after.
  • Stay hydrated, drink plenty of water. Remember that alcohol and caffeine can also dehydrate skin and cause further redness.
WHO CAN HAVE DERMAPLANING?

Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with active breakout and men with heavy facial hair. If you have active acne there are other treatments available that would be more beneficial, and it is necessary to wait until breakouts are healed before trying this treatment. As always, also discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities before starting a treatment. This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the use of chemicals.

HOW DO I CHOOSE WHAT'S RIGHT FOR ME?

Both treatments are great for all skin types. It is up to you and your esthetician to decide what fits best for you and your skin.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY SERVICE?

Dermaplaning and/or Microdermabrasion is a painless treatment that includes deep cleansing, professional exfoliation in the form of dermaplaning or microdermabrasion followed by restorative treatment and finished with skin care suited to your unique skin. Dermaplaning has a similar sensation to a close shave which removes vellus hair and dead skin cells simultaneously. While Microdermabrasion removes the dead skin cells with suction and exfoliation with the diamond tip wand.

HOW LONG IS THE TREATMENT?

30 – 45 minutes.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY SERVICE?

You’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. While the main objective of this treatment is exfoliation, the immediate removal of peach fuzz is an added benefit which renders the skin exceptionally smooth and soft. Skin care products are better able to penetrate the skin following either service which allows them to work more efficiently. Your cosmetics will also go on smoother. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may look pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.

HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY SKIN AFTER A DERMAPLANING AND/OR MICRODERMABRASION SERVICE?

After treatment, your skin needs time to heal and restore. Treat the skin gently, using only hands to cleanse for at least 2 days and wearing sunscreen every day.

WILL MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER AND DARKER AFTER DERMAPLANING?

No, dermaplaning will not alter your natural hair growth. This is a myth and there’s zero true to the idea.

PRE-TREATMENT:

WAXING

How long my hair should be for waxing?

Your hair should be at least ¼ inch long for proper waxing. A hair smaller than this length is difficult to wax, while longer than this length may cause pain during waxing.

Which wax do you use for waxing?

We use high-quality hard beans wax from reputed brands for waxing, which smoothly waxes away unwanted hair from any area of your body.

Is it hygienic to have a waxing service?

Absolutely! At M.M. Skin, we ensure proper hygiene and sanitary conditions. We NEVER DO DOUBLE DIPPING to prevent any instances of cross-contamination.

How long does the result of waxing last?

Usually, the result of waxing lasts for about 3-4 weeks. If you are getting treatment for the first time, you can expect the results to last anywhere between 3 and 6 weeks. However, the regrowth of hair also depends on your hair regrowth cycle and pattern. With regular waxing, the result improves and last for longer.

I have sensitive skin, can I take waxing service?

As our esthetician performs a detailed skin analysis and adopts gentle waxing techniques, our waxing service is suitable for sensitive skin types. However, you carefully need to follow the pre and post waxing guidelines which our esthetician provides you.

Do you also provide waxing services for men?

Yes, men can also benefit from our waxing services.

How should I prepare my skin for waxing?

Do not take any skin treatments like facials or exfoliation at least a week before your waxing appointment. We thoroughly clean your skin before performing the procedure.

How should I care for my skin after waxing?

After waxing, your skin may become sensitive with red bumps or slight skin irritation. This condition fades away in a few hours. Avoid getting into the sun, tanning beds, and hot baths. Avoid applying heavy moisturizing creams or lotions for almost 48 hours after waxing.
